Black/Death Metal act from Spain, Teitanblood, stirred the message boards with “Seven Chalices”. I mean, come on… everybody is so excited about this release that all they care is the artwork and the booklet of the vinyl version, etc. An added bonus there is that, these Spaniards are now in NoEvDia. One of those labels who releases fast selling albums in the underground and now “Seven Chalices” is one of them.

Musically, this is average. What more can you expect in a band playing traditional Black/Death Metal? Uh, it’s Bestial Black/Death now I’m sorry. Simplistic in its nature, so don’t expect complex song structures and all that kind of stuff. That’s a no-no if you worship Bestial Black Filth! The only good thing that I can remember in this record is the album’s guitar tone. It’s low but sharp, more like a better produced Proclamation. Yes, because you can’t help not to mention that band while listening to this album.

Another negative is that the drums, definitely the snares, were all left buried behind the tidal wave of “warring” guitars (in which having a killer tone by the way) leaving the listener wonder what the fuck is going on?! That’s right, bands like this seems to intentionally bury the blast and make it all sound like there’s no snare but only cymbals and just cymbals being played during those lines. I’m sorry, but my poser ears can’t digest that kind of mentality!

The vocals are great, I can say that. Specially during the maniacal screaming. Great work in there. The leads were all like going into the borderline of good and bad. The abuse of tremolo doesn’t always heading into a good direction. It just keeps on wanking and wanking that doesn’t sound as a solo anymore. I myself can do that kind of shit, seriously! But that’s what Teitanblood is all about, right – remember the demo?

“Seven Chalices” is a decent album. Musically, it’s average but it’s not bad at all. I figure that this only came out strong because of the superb packaging of the vinyl version (never have it, only CD here) and being released by NoEvDia/AJNA means a lot to some.
