BEHEMOTH - Evangelion CD

BEHEMOTH - EVANGELIONPolish Blackened Death Metal masters, Behemoth, is back with a new album called ‘Evangelion’. While I’m not expecting this to be so good, I’m surprised it is that I should better throw my opinions up on the site. The new album is like Zos Kia Cultus and Demigod combined. This time no more annoying clicky kicks off Zos Kia Cultus and stupid layered vocals off Demigod. The sound here is once again huge and those guitars were tight and crisps. In fact, the entire production blows the shit away of all their contemporaries and I’m not naming names here!

Inferno’s monstrous drumming once again blindingly shines in this new record but of course, the rest of the gang also get the job done. ‘Evangelion’ kick starts with a useless shouting vocal solo courtesy of Nergal (Slaves Shall Serve anyone?) and this album is supposed to start really warlike, right? So okey, the shouting is not a problem then. The thing here now is that, Behemoth is bringing awareness to the mainstream without sounding like a wimp – like most of the bands who strives for commercial success do. Now, I’ve no idea why all of the disgust for Behemoth is seemingly increasing among the few herd…

All of the songs here were like a massive slap of hate to the face of those people who keep on calling this band a ‘sellout’, ‘mallcore’, ‘metalcore’, etc. None of those words describe this release! The only thing I can say is that, get up on your so-called satanic asses and start learning to write/listen to some good metal! This album is not recorded in a dungeon and/or recorded by zombies (give me a break); this album is free from all of those bullshit marketing tricks and is recorded by skilled musicians who knows what it takes to write good music.

There is no fanboying on my part! Come on, why the hell should I bother doing that, haha! Let’s face it, what else is that you can get near to this record may I ask? All your hyped bands in your lousy message board will cower once played back to back with this album and I’m not going to talk about Behemoth live on stage! The statement made by Behemoth fanboys claiming that they are ‘The Greatest Band Today’ seems to be running true, because both live on stage and in the studio - this band simply crushes!

The brutality in this record is so literally defined but I wouldn’t call this to be a good album from a band of this caliber. I think ‘The Apostasy’ is the be all, end all album from them. This one is still good, in fact excellent record if we are about to compare it to the rest of the crap that’s been coming out nowadays, but ‘The Apostasy’ is the peak of their skills and in fact, musically, I prefer ‘Demigod’ but the layered vocals simply destroys everything from that masterpiece, so…

The video for the track ‘Ov Fire And The Void’ is also available on JewTube. Interesting to watch, but nothing’s new with all those – and by the way, who’s the bitch? I’m talking about the one with the nighties and not the naked angel alright. I’m certain that the angel came from Nightwish’s ‘Amaranth’, too bad this time she fell in a wrong place!

Anyway, ‘Evangelion’ is really a fine record – another good album from Behemoth, if I was to say – but if this is your first encounter with the band, then it might not be as impressive as what is happening on ‘Demigod’ or ‘The Apostasy’. Recommended!
