  1. MARBLEBOG – Forestheart CD

MarblebogI’ve familiarized myself with the Hungarian Scene with Tormentor. Some few others followed like Ahriman. The country did spew forth more and more bands as the years go by. I have this tape and I don’t expect such mediocre music based upon those things that I’ve read about this band. Not bad, but it’s not even to the point of being good. Some people were impressed by this but what can we do? Opinions are simply opinions and I suppose to have one here or what? The “excellent” riffs were simply bland and all that. They even want to emulate Norwegian Black Metal, Burzum to be specific, and there’s nothing more that I can say. This is too “forest” for me and the ambient track just won’t work. For depressed people and to anyone seeking drifting “melodies” this one will appeal the most. Anything “melancholic” is certainly not my thing!

  2. ABIGAIL – Abigail Loves Ilona As She Is The Very Best CD

AbigailThe album cover is just funny (not that one above), if not pointless. I mean, you like to fuck that girl and put her on the cover since you are in a band? Ok, I am all for that. Probably that is very Metal, uh! Not bad if you compare this cover with all the Gore/Porn Metal out there. In the long run, they look the same this time. Speaking about the music, Abigail is known for Thrash with Black Metal elements (more Thrash for me). Hints of Venom, Bulldozer and Motorhead comes to mind. In my taste, there is really nothing special with this release at all. The vocals are just plain weak. Anyone can go to their basement and record some shitty rehearsals and release it and no one will care. Only this time, it’s Abigail. They now have a vast discography and probably trying to be in line with Nunslaughter and Sabbat. Take this if you’re a fan of the band.

  3. XASTHUR – To Violate the Oblivious CD

XasthurWhat is it with this band? Slow and drifting music and it seems that anybody likes it now. Well, this time I think everybody seem to despise this band, haha! People change opinions every minute and Xasthur is like a pop music façade that goes in hot for today and might be gone for tomorrow. I still give respect to this guy for at least making this kind of music and take a following. Probably there are more depressed people in the world than the so-called alcoholic ones? Take a walk around, the world is turning, and being sober nowadays sucks so people are now putting attention on who’s the most rawest Black Metal in the planet ready to outdone Blasphemy and Sarcofago? Haha! If Xasthur is over then what’s next …

  4. CRUCIFIRE – Unblessed Unto Hatred MC

CrucifireSomething surprising that came out from the land of Oz. This time is Death Metal. I’m talking about dark and haunting Death Metal that resembles “Onward to Golgotha”. Since this is an Australian band, don’t suddenly expect a lot of chaos and howling leads here and there. The atmosphere here is too dark, perhaps the production is just dark. Great stuff! Really demonic riffs here. Play this very loud in a dark place and you’ll see a black smoke shaping like a devil coming out from your speakers. Maybe that smoke came out because of short circuit, you silly fuck! Highly recommended for those who seeks “evil” with Death Metal and not about technical and clean stuff!

  7. KAWIR – Arai CD

KawirAnyone familiar with the old Greecian scene already knows this band. This time the Greeks are back with a new album that resembles back the mighty ancient Grecian sound. At some point, I am not getting into this idea of using weird instruments in Black Metal. Sure the use of keyboards are just fine by me, but for flutes or that kind of stuff, well, let me think. There are also some female vocals that can be heard, in which another thing I am not into. The mixing of all these things was not bad at all ‘though. Music wise, this just sounds old. I mean, as old like the old sound of Ancient Greek Black Metal. Not much complain on the music itself despite of the use of weird instruments. If there’s anything to complain then that might be the vocalist itself. Let’s face it, the vocals are not very good here. Other than that, this is an ok CD but nothing special for me. Maybe for fans of Greecian Black Metal it will be.

  8. SATANIC WARMASTER – Carelian Satanist Madness LP

Satanic WarmasterTrust me; this one is just another Satanic Warmaster release. All of the people who have heard this band knows that most of the time, the riffing is typical Norsecore done even more simpler. Yes, Norwegian Black Metal played by a Finnish Black Metal band, somehow, that’s just strange. History aside, this disc contains 8 tracks of minimalist Black Metal bearing the Norwegian Black Metal sound, yes of course! And speaking of Norway, the Metal scene, Mayhem will always come to mind. So much that one of the tracks here literally sounds like a carbon copy of “Deathcrush” is beyond my understanding, but what can we do? Only for fans of the band.
